Virtual Event | October 10, 12pm – 1pm EDT

This webinar will explore the evolving role of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) in athletic training professional and residency programs. It will highlight the need for more consistent implementation and formalized assessment of IPCP experiences, while also addressing the ongoing confusion between interprofessional collaborative practice and interprofessional education within the field.

Educational Gap: Despite growing recognition of the importance of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) in healthcare, there remains a lack of clarity and consistency in how IPCP is distinguished from interprofessional education (IPE) and integrated into athletic training professional and residency programs. Many programs lack formalized strategies and assessment tools to effectively implement IPCP, highlighting a critical need for guidance on best practices, curriculum development, and evaluation methods to ensure athletic trainers are adequately prepared for collaborative, team-based care.

Educational Bottom Line: Interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) is essential to the advancement of athletic training education, yet its implementation and assessment remain inconsistent. Clarifying the distinction between IPCP and interprofessional education (IPE) is critical to effectively integrating and evaluating IPCP within both professional and residency athletic training programs. By adopting structured strategies and formal evaluation methods, educators and program directors can enhance collaborative practice readiness in both professional and residency-level training.
