University of Virginia (UVA) Athletics Sports Medicine provides healthcare to all varsity student-athletes within an NCAA Division I program. There are 19 full time athletic trainers serving 27 sports, for a total of about 750 student-athletes. UVA has an accredited MSAT program, which also requires an immersive experience in the fall of the second year. The majority of our staff are preceptors within the UVA program. Immersive opportunities for visiting students include football in the fall, and men’s lacrosse in the spring. Students are expected to work for the duration of the season (pre-season, in-season, and post-season). Immersive students will travel to several away games with staff.
