Mission Statement
The mission of C.A.T.S. Medical Services is to provide excellent care to the student athletes at the University of Arizona. The certified athletic trainers and physicians work with coaches and the rest of the C.A.T.S. services as an integral part of an athlete’s total success.

Strengths of Clinical Site:
• Learn from a variety of athletic trainers and dual- credentialed PT/ATs on staff
• promote “real world” experience from the application process to hands-on clinical experience and speaking with coaches,
• participate in staff meetings and multidisciplinary approaches to the overall health care of the student-
athlete
• many educational learning opportunities via seminars and presentations from staff and other interns
• hosts other ATEP students to engage in learning from different programs
Specific Learning Objectives of Clinical Site
• Learn/practice how to prepare for emergency situations
• Implementation of rehabilitation programs
• Strengthen evaluation skills
• Interaction with our physicians and other providers (psychologists, nutritionists, orthotists, etc)
• Strengthen documentation in an EMR
• Continue education through presentations and participating in seminars
Unique Considerations for the Clinical Site (ie: immersive experience, educational components of the site, etc.)
• Immersive experience and autonomy encouraged once the student has demonstrated responsibility
• Required 1 15-20 min presentation on an AT topic with at least 3 sources per semester
• Required completion of the AT Intern Checklist within 1 month of being on-campus that includes additional
trainings (i.e. Bloodborne pathogens, HIPAA, Preventing Discrimination, etc)
• Opportunity to travel is dependent on sport and their availability to travel (may not be available with all
sport assignments) as well as location of travel (i.e. in vs out of state)
• Numerous additional educational components to participate in whether it be staff meetings, professional development lectures within the staff and community resources which students will be required to document in a professional development log
Requirements for the Clinical Site (ie: application and selection process, on-boarding requirements, transportation and housing, etc.)
• Completed application form, resume, and cover letter
• Zoom Interview
• If and once accepted, students will need to complete on-boarding requirements prior to arrival and complete on-campus on-boarding education within the first month
• Background check will be conducted once accepted
• Housing: There is no official housing information for interns however we are able to direct you to sources for past interns or availability that we know of for the duration of the internship. Plenty of rental availability in the Tucson community.
• Expenses: Please note that this is a non-paid internship. Cost of living, housing, transportation and parking are the responsibility of the intern. There is also a $25 expense to obtain a CatCard for access to buildings on campus.
